Restoration Rate Policy

About Ekone’s tiered pricing model

For summer camp and other programs we run, we offer two pricing tiers; “Base Rate” and “Restoration Rate”.

We want to keep our prices as affordable as we can for families, and also be competitive with other camps and programs out there. We also want to invite the resources that would build true organizational sustainability and integrity.

“Base Rate” is our estimation of the cost of running the program; staff time, food, facilities, basic operations, and a portion of overhead. Of course, this is an estimate! There’s no way to precisely calculate everything that goes into the programs we create, or to parse it out to a per-person cost. And there’s a lot more to the Ekone experience than this “cost of services” approach factors in.

“Restoration Rate” is an invitation for those who are financially able to share in abundance and help “restore” social and ecological equity at Ekone. This rate supports our commitment to making Ekone’s land and programs accessible to all, not just the wealthy. It supports caring for the land with the attention it deserves. It supports our efforts to be in right relationship with the Native people whose historic lands we occupy. It supports organizational health, including fair compensation for our hardworking staff and the ability to plan for the future. None of these things would be possible if we were operating purely on a bare-bones “cost of services” basis.

(We consider the difference between Base Rate and Restoration Rate “paying it forward”. The IRS considers it a tax-deductible donation, and we’ll provide you with a tax receipt to that effect.)
