No....this beautiful trio of ancient Sitka spruce are not at Ekone......but we are guided by such perfection in Nature.
We have experienced over the years that nurturing the forest pays off in many ways. Taking out the dead and dying and thining the trees that are literally choking each other can be very healthy for the forest. Before white man came onto to the landscape a natural regime of fires did this kind of thinning. In modern times fires are suppressed and so in some forests, like the pine and oak kind of forests  of Ekone, it is often healthy to lend nature a helping hand. In the long run the forest will be more beautiful, healthy and productive. We use our portable band saw to mill lumber and have built a shop where we can produce sustainable wood products. If you would like to learn more, or help in some way, let us know.

This old ponderosa died naturally from pine-bark beetles and is being readied for the saw mill.

Now the log is ready for cutting into beautiful exotic looking wood like the siding which covers our bath house below.
